“I Was Going To Be Homeless Tomorrow”
What an emotional day it was in Raleigh, NC. Local realtors showed up to earn their American Warrior Real Estate Professional continued education credit and to partake in helping a local veteran in serious need.
“I was going to be homeless tomorrow…” were the words from the USAF veteran as he tearfully accepted a family grant today. The grant began at $6,500 but quickly grew due to overwhelming support from attendees of the event. Realtors purchased Red Friday T-Shirts ($22) knowing every penny of that purchase would go directly to this veteran. Shirt donations upped the grant to $8500 . And then…the American Warrior Initiative added enough to round up the grant to $10,000.00! All to help with housing and transportation expenses for the veteran.
But wait, there’s more…
The “Joel Fund,”a non-profit started by the daughter of a 20 year Navy SEAL veteran, who lost his battle with post traumatic stress last year, was the organization which introduced this veteran to AWI and shared his need with the local Fairway family also had needs of its own. So, it was a huge surprise when they were given a grant of $2,500.00 to help with equipment needs for the non-profit!
Thanks to Don Waters, branch manager with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, and the other Fairway family in Raleigh, NC, for the hard work they did to host this boot camp.
